Canterbury Arts Center
| |
|
Now a flourishing cultural centre, The Arts Centre was originally home of Canterbury University College. The College was established in 1873.
The University’s transition from a seat of learning to a centre of the arts came about when in 1975 the University moved to a new site. The fate of the old city buildings was not clear for some time, but an early suggestion that they be used as a cultural centre was eventually taken up and The Arts Centre Trust was formed to administer the site.

We rode the gondola to the summit and had lunch. Afterwards, we walked down to the harbor of Lyttleton.

Joanne and Tom sang this original song
"THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES" (with apologies to the composers and to Bob
Hope.)
Thanks for the memories
Of Kia Ora and Haeri Mai
A warm welcome every day (die)
Of tramping in wet bush
That was so green and lush
Thanks for the memories
Pohutakau 'n Rimu at every turn
Cabbage palm and giant fern
Altho many days were not sunny
On sun block we saved money
Thanks for the memories
Of our noble Barry Chief
Who did pick up the leaf
Of Decco Napier, such a treat
With jazz 'n dancing in the street
|
Thanks for the memories
Of joy to disembark
On terra firma at Tasman Park
Of waves ducked under and ova
Meals delicious with lamb and Pavlova
Thanks for the memories
Of wearable WOW art
Now Kiwi land we must depart
Our youthful elder group
Thirty were a joyful troupe
And Margery and Brian Cobbe
Who did an outstanding job
We thank you so much
Haeri Ra, Haeri Ra! HAKA!

Willowbank Wildlife Reserve

Our very last activity before leaving Christchurch was our visit to the Willowbank Wildlife Reserve where we saw the Kiwis, moutain parrots, and other unique New Zealand fauna.
